I love hearing from readers, not as much as I love wine, but a VERY close second!

That's What She Said… About Becoming a Vegan

This week’s “That’s What She Said” column is about my crazy decision to give up everything good in life. In related news, I HAVE NOTHING LEFT TO LIVE FOR.

Also, I’m hungry.

Also, I’ll probably need to learn to cook so I can eat.

Also, if you have recipes or ideas please share.

Also, that’s all. I just really like the word also.

  • Um… I can’t come over for dinner again, ever. But I still like you.

  • I’m a vegan, and have been for quite some time. I love it and I’ll never look back. However, the last thing real vegans need is another imposter wining about “how hard” it is. Find some vegan friends, look up some vegan blogs, have some pride in your choices.

  • I could not do the vegan thing. I am vegetarian but possibly the world’s worst one :op

  • I’m vegetarian, but love cheese way too much to go full vegan. My husband’s vegan though and I’ve found The Complete Vegan Kitchen by Jannequin Bennett helpful for cooking for him. Good luck!

  • Um, if you had told me you were doing this I would have invited you over for dinner. We have a Vegan teenager, remember?

  • Lately I’ve been boiling up some potatoes and onions, then eating them with ketchup. It’s cheap and easy, and surprisingly satisfying.

I’ve thought about trying the vegan thing, but I’m allergic to soy, so I wouldn’t last very long. Good job, Sarah!

  • Also, if you go to http://www.recipezaar.com, you can search for vegan recipes. I don’t know how good of a selection you’ll find, but I do know that it contains my “Ukrainian Cabbage Rolls! which are probably full of yucky stuff that you don’t want to eat.

  • Good for you! I’ve been a vegatarian for years, and I’m trying to head towards veganism.

The Post Punk Kitchen (http://www.theppk.com/) has a killer name, and some good recipes. Their Baked Tofu (http://www.theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/index.php?RecipeID=38) is a mainstay of my diet. There are some store-bought brands of baked tofu that I like better than others. Baked tofu scratches the cheese itch – a quick snack of protein.

I also rather like fake bacon and BBQ spare ribs are my boy friend.

Good luck! Coming up with witty coming back to the tofu jokes will save your… er vegan bacon.
